The public should be “mindful” that shopping online kills their high street, the HMRC boss in charge of taxing tech giants has said in her first interview.

Jo Wakeman, who is responsible for enforcing the new “Amazon tax”, has spoken of the “changing face” of her local high street, and said she would be “sorry” to see its shops disappear altogether.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Ms Wakeman also admitted she shops online and has no problem with people buying “everything” on the internet as long as they are “conscious of what the potential impact would be”.
