Job description

Ninety9cents is a full-service, integrated advertising agency located in Cape Town, and is one of South Africa’s largest independently owned agencies.  Led by founder and Managing Director, Andrew Brand, the agency’s extensive client base includes leading brands such as Shoprite/Checkers, Ackermans, PUMA, Spur Group, Capitec and Distell, to name but a few.


The search engine optimisation Specialist will be responsible for analysing, reviewing and implementing websites optimised for search, along with developing content to include keywords or phrases for increased traffic to website.  

The SEO specialist must have in-depth knowledge of keyword research, SEO copywriting and the behaviours of search engines as well as great writing skills and a strong ability to market their work.


  •  Reviewing and analysing client sites for areas that can be improved and optimised
  • Preparing detailed strategic reports
  • Identifying powerful keywords to drive the most valuable traffic
  • Working with paid media team to run PPC campaigns (where relevant)
  • Writing powerful calls-to-action to convert visitors
  • Filling websites and other content with effective keywords
  • Writing effective SEO content for blogs, websites and social media accounts
  • Developing link building strategies
  • Analysing keywords and SEO techniques used by competitors
  • Keeping updated on both white hat and black hat SEO strategies
  • Compiling and presenting SEO guidelines
  • Supporting digital strategy with research, competitor analysis and campaign strategy

Key requirements:

  • Understanding of digital marketing best practices
  • Prior experience in content marketing, content growth and SEO
  • Working knowledge of search engine optimisation practices
  • Outstanding ability to think creatively and strategically along with the ability to identify and resolve problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Experience with Google analytics and Google AdWords
  • Experience with website optimisation tools
  • Strong organisational, time management, and analytical skills
  • Comfortable with MS Excel to manipulate data and create meaningful graphs
  • An understanding of HTML/CSS and JavaScript would be an advantage
  • Audit websites for SEO issues
  • Identify and resolve SEO issues
  • Good understanding of social media landscape and how this can be utilised in SEO
  • Performing a thorough, detailed website analysis, identifying current problems and opportunities, with a focus on crawlability, site architecture and site content
  • Performing competitive research, identifying what the client’s competitors are doing right, what they’re doing wrong, and how these tactics influence the client
