NORMAN – Senior Brenna Dowell and sophomores Karrie Thomas and Carly Woodard all earned Big 12 weekly honors, the conference announced Monday.
Dowell (Gymnast of the Week), Thomas (Co-Newcomer of the Week) and Woodard (Co-Event Specialist of the Week) were all instrumental to the Sooners’ 198.200 victory at No. 7 Michigan on Saturday. The honor was the 10th of Dowell’s career and third for Thomas and Woodard.
Dowell set a career and season high in the all-around, earning a 39.725 with four scores of 9.925 or better on the day to take home the all-around title. Dowell, who tallied a 9.925 on vault, bars and beam, also took home the floor title with a 9.95. The senior, who tied her career high on beam with a 9.925, led off the beam rotation to set OU up for a season-best 49.625 on beam. All four of Dowell’s scores counted toward the Sooners putting up the second highest score in the nation with a 198.200 in a tough environment on the road at No. 7 Michigan.
Thomas helped OU to a 49.550 on bars, earning a 9.9 on the apparatus in the No. 3 spot. The sophomore was the first of four scores of 9.9 or better for the Sooners on bars and now has five scores of 9.9 or better on the event this season.
Woodard was instrumental in leading the Sooners to a season-best 49.625 on beam. The sophomore tallied a 9.925, her third score of 9.9 or better this season. Woodard was one of five scores of 9.9 or higher OU counted toward its season-best score.
The Sooners will close out a double-weekend, traveling to conference rival Iowa State tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT.
